This work explores the emotional landscape of winter by translating it into a state of mind, drawing inspiration from Giovanni Segantini’s painting The Return from the Woods.

The painting depicts a dilation of time that, slowing and tensing, showcases the toil

and perseverance of humankind: a peasant woman drags a heavy sled through a desolate landscape surrounded by mountains towering over crystalline snow. All the pictorial elements contribute to the depiction of a tension between the inherent obstacles of life and human strength, which, in this context, takes on a supernatural character. It is precisely this polarity that builds a bridge between Segantini’s peasant universe and our contemporary world.

The difficulties of life often present us with this challenge in various forms, redrawing the contours of everyday fears and contexts of public exposure, forcing us into a long winter of the soul. In a desolate blanket of snow, a flame ignites out of nowhere. Even winter has its colors, which in the cold and silence can be even more explosive. All enclosed in a pure white. We just need to rediscover them.
